Personalised nutrition in Clapham and Streatham
To find the right ayurvedic diet, lifestyle and herbs for you, your ayurvedic constitution (your dominant dosha, or prakriti) has to be ascertained, as well as the current balance of the doshas (your vikriti). Our nutritional therapist, Jacqui Gibbons, will do this in a consultation lasting 90 minutes. You’ll be asked about what you eat, your daily routine, job, symptoms, digestion, bowel movements, sleep, energy, emotions and more. Observations will be made, e.g. the tongue and pulse, and the functioning of the body assessed from an ayurvedic point of view.
Recommendations will then be made to help you achieve physical, mental and emotional balance. This may include foods to eat, foods to avoid, lifestyle changes, herbs and spices, exercise, massage, yoga and breathing exercises.
We won't give you a long diet sheet on your first visit or try to change everything at once. For most people, that's not realistic, not practical and cannot be maintained long-term. It shocks the body, physically and psychologically, and could aggravate the doshas. Instead, we will find changes that are practical for you to incorporate into your daily life, job and routine. Once these changes become a habit, more are introduced. This brings much better and longer-lasting results.
Two to four weeks later you have a follow-up appointment of up to 60 minutes, to review your symptoms and progress. Your plan will be added to as necessary. During the first few weeks, regular contact with Jacqui, your therapist, is crucial for success, and for you to feel supported while you change your habits. This regular contact, including email, brings the best improvements in your health. How often you need to actually see us after your first follow-up depends on your symptoms, and how motivated you are. We will agree with you what is needed and what you can afford. There are discounts if you are also having massage or yoga with us.
Ayurveda is a method of self-healing and only you can make the changes to your diet and lifestyle that are necessary for full and lasting health. Our aim is to help you clear your imbalances and rebalance the doshas, and to then get you on the right diet and daily routine for your constitution and digestion. We want to share our knowledge of ayurveda with you and empower YOU to take charge of your own wellbeing.
