Colon detox
If it is needed, the ayurvedic detox diet can be followed by a deeper cleansing treatment for the digestive organs. This is a simple, safe and effective cleanse of either the colon or the small intestine using traditional panchakarma (cleansing) methods. It is done at home, following the directions given.
It removes toxins from deep within the digestive organs, tissues, nerves and liver. It leaves you feeling refreshed, with more energy and a sense of wellbeing. It restores the body’s physiology to balance. The detox can be fitted into your normal life and work routine, but it is best to have at least three non-working days (e.g. a long weekend).
Depending on the individual diagnosis, one of the following methods is used:
To cleanse the small intestine of ama and excess Pitta, oil or herbs are taken internally to cause purgation. This is a five-day detox (after two weeks on the detox diet). Or:
To cleanse the large intestine of ama and excess Vata, oils are taken internally then basti (a gentle herbal enema) is used, followed by oil basti to nourish the colon. This is a seven to ten-day detox (after two weeks on the detox diet).
Prices: Clapham £170 (worth £195), Streatham £120 (worth £150).

"I feel physically better and this detox has nurtured my mind"
Sarah, Camberwell: "I have always detoxed for health, weight and mind issues but this time I wanted to follow a specific programme, to understand what I was putting my body through, and to stop this yo-yo behaviour I had got myself into. My experience of Ayurveda had been from text books but I needed the guidance from Jacqui to put a specialised programme together.
"The reason for this detox was to start thinking about mind, body and soul. I had been suffering from digestive programmes for a number of years, which had slowly started affecting my bowels, my skin and my emotions. Having recently been diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease I wanted to treat my condition holistically and start anew.
"By the end of the first week my cravings for food had gone, I felt less dependent on food and although I was weak I knew I was eliminating the toxins that were making me ill. The second week of the programme included self-massage and selected treatments along with three to four bastis (gentle Ayurvedic enemas) to remove some of the stubborn ama within my system. By the end of the two weeks my energy levels have risen considerably, my eating patterns having regulated, I’ve lost excess pounds and people have commented on my skin's radiance.
"Apart from physically feeling better this detox has nurtured by mind, I’ve learnt to love myself again and I have a deep sense of relaxation and understanding. I believe that a number of my issues were emotionally related, food is my medicine and I have a deeper awareness of who I am, knowing which dosha I fall under and how to eat, live and think accordingly.
"A massive thanks to Jacqui. Without her I could have made my problems worse by not following the correct regime. She guided me through the programme and has been there to help and offer advice whenever I have needed it... the journey has just begun!"
